Editorial Services

Your story has value. I firmly believe that the story your are writing is one that God has given to you for a specific purpose, and only you are qualified to write this story.

With that in mind, my goal as an editor is to come alongside you in the editing process by providing direction and encouragement. I will preserve your unique author voice and help your story come alive according to your unique vision. I also offer a 1-hour Zoom consult that you can schedule anytime within three months of your scheduled edit. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have or brainstorm with me. I’m here to cheer you on!

Copyediting

Copyediting focuses on the nitty-gritty of your story. This edit ensures consistency in punctuation, capitalization, spelling, etc., corrects incorrect usage of words, flags inaccuracies or inconsistencies, reviews word choices, supplies suggested revisions for wordy, unclear, and redundant writing, and improves readability as able.

I will also provide light line editing throughout, pointing out areas of repetition or inconsistency, providing suggestions for tightening prose, and offering ideas on showing versus telling.

Investment: $0.2/word

Proofreading

This edit is the most technical and is the final chance to catch improper grammar, typos, misspelled words, and punctuation.

It should only be performed after all other rounds of edits are completed since this edit is the finishing touch before being sent to an agent/publisher or self-publishing platform.

Investment: $.01/word

Three-Chapter Critique

A strong opening to any book can effectively hook your reader for the entirety of the story.

This edit will evaluate your first three chapters for structure, characterization, worldbuilding, conflict, and the quality of your prose, and will provide ideas for how to improve areas of weakness.

Becca Wierwille, MG Author of Road Trip Rescue

Megan’s sharp attention to detail, eye for consistency, and ability to hone in on each and every word of a story have given me confidence that my story is ready to send into the world. She exceeded my expectations, giving me deep and insightful feedback and answering each and every one of my questions, big and small. Her encouraging words and great communication made my final stages of editing so much fun—and I learned a lot in the process too! I highly recommend Megan’s services to authors looking for an editor or proofreader who will help take their writing to the next level.

Ben, Catherine, and Wilma Haws - Authors of Hooray for Carnival Day!

Megan is a story magician! If you are ready to take your story to the next level, she can help you get there. Her in-depth feedback to us was incredibly helpful and educational for this book as well as for our future projects.

Trissina Kear, Social Media Director & Marketing Associate of Enclave Publishing

Megan Gerig has been an absolute delight to work with at Enclave Publishing. Her passion for the stories themselves gives her insight into proofreading to catch items that are unusual for a proofer to find. Megan’s attention to detail and organized way that she presents the information is extremely helpful, and she is willing to work within the parameters of what the definition of a proofreader means for the projects given.

The line between a regular editor, copy editor, and proofreader, is not always an easy one to follow and not many are up to the task as often they want to be all three (or at least two) at once. Megan has the ability to delineate between all three and be exactly what is needed. We at Enclave have been thrilled with her proofreading skills so far, and highly recommend her for your project.

Disclaimer

Editing is a human process. It is rare that any published book is error free, even when a book has been proofread several times. Traditional publishing houses may put books through three to five edits before going to print, and mistakes are still often found after the book has been printed. Although I will attempt to provide a perfect manuscript, I cannot promise that the document will be 100% error free after a copyedit or proofread.
