Editorial Services

Your story has value. My editing goal is to preserve your unique author voice and help your story come alive according to your unique vision. I firmly believe that the story you are writing is one that God has given to you for a specific purpose, and only you are qualified to write this story.

With that in mind, my goal as an editor is to come alongside you in the editing process by providing direction and encouragement throughout all of my editing suggestions. I also offer a 1-hour Zoom consult that you can schedule anytime within three months of your scheduled edit. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have or brainstorm with me. I’m here to cheer you on!

Copyediting

Copyediting focuses on the nitty-gritty of your story. This edit ensures consistency in punctuation, capitalization, spelling, etc., corrects incorrect usage of words, flags inaccuracies or inconsistencies, reviews word choices, supplies suggested revisions for wordy, unclear, and redundant writing, and improves readability as able.

I will also provide light line editing throughout, pointing out areas of repetition or inconsistency, providing suggestions for tightening prose, and offering ideas on showing versus telling.

Investment: $.025/word

Proofreading

This edit is the most technical and is the final chance to catch improper grammar, typos, misspelled words, and punctuation. It should only be performed after all other rounds of edits are completed since this edit is the finishing touch before being sent to an agent/publisher or self-publishing platform.

Investment: $.01/word

Three-Chapter Critique

A strong opening to any book can effectively hook your reader for the entirety of the story. This edit will evaluate your first three chapters for structure, characterization, worldbuilding, conflict, and the quality of your prose, and will provide ideas for how to improve areas of weakness.

Investment: $149

What Authors Are Saying…

“Megan Gerig has been an absolute delight to work with at Enclave Publishing. Her passion for the stories themselves gives her insight into proofreading to catch items that are unusual for a proofer to find. Megan’s attention to detail and organized way that she presents the information is extremely helpful, and she is willing to work within the parameters of what the definition of a proofreader means for the projects given.

The line between a regular editor, copy editor, and proofreader, is not always an easy one to follow and not many are up to the task as often they want to be all three (or at least two) at once. Megan has the ability to delineate between all three and be exactly what is needed. We at Enclave have been thrilled with her proofreading skills so far, and highly recommend her for your project.”

Trissina Kear, Social Media Director & Marketing Associate of Enclave Publishing

“Megan helped me tremendously in cutting out unnecessary bits, making illogical points logical and realistic, trimming wordy sentences concise, and so much more. Her work brought my novel to life, making it more readable and engaging. Sometimes “less” really is “the best.” Megan’s insight about the content of my book really helped the plot become more believable and inviting. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with her hard work and dedication as an editor.”

– Grace Caylor, author of The Thrall’s Sword

“Megan is amazing! She helped me take the story that I was at the end of my rope with and bump it up to the next level. She truly cares about the author and their heart for the story and helps it all connect on the page. I 100% recommend working with her.”

– Ashley Schaller, author of R.E.M. from Quill & Flame Publishing

“It’s always so scary when you start letting other people read your writing, and not only has Megan given me amazing feedback that I totally agree with but couldn’t see on my own, but she has made me feel SO GOOD about my writing and story! If you’re looking for an editor, I definitely recommend Megan!”

– K. B. Benson, author of The Call of the Sirens trilogy

“Megan was a tremendous help to me as I worked to complete my book proposal and sample chapters. She makes great use of her editorial training and skills. Her thorough research, thoughtful questions, and perceptive feedback not only helped me progress toward a satisfying finished product, but also helped me learn some things along the way. Megan is a professional—competent, timely, and encouraging.”

– Natalie Ogbourne, author of Waking up in the Wilderness

“It is so important to have a professional pair of eyes look over your manuscript, and Megan certainly delivered! I appreciated how smooth the process was and how quickly the copyedit took.”

– Catherine Haws, author of I Did NOT Choose This Adventure

“Megan is a wonderful editor because she is thorough and can easily cut deep to the issues of plot structure and character development or get as simple as helping improve your wording.

When she makes a suggestion on edits, she doesn’t just say “show, don’t tell” or something along those lines. She explains why she felt something wasn’t quite right and gives suggestions on how to make it better.

She’s a very sweet person and is easy to work with. She’s been critiquing and editing my stories for a few years now, and I still bring them to her when I’d like a second opinion and a critical eye to look them over.”

Disclaimer

Editing is a human process. It is rare that any published book is error-free, even when a book has been proofread several times. Traditional publishing houses may put books through three to five edits before going to print, and mistakes are still often found after the book has been printed. Although I will attempt to provide a perfect manuscript, I cannot promise that the document will be 100% error-free after a copyedit or proofread.
